Thursday 13 August 2015, Gaucin, mostly sunny, light-fresh W-NW wind, 32C

A very warm day yesterday, but mercilessly less humid than the past week or two during which there were even a few drops of sandy 'desert' rain. Little time for birding but I did see 120+ Black Kite over the village at 18:45hrs and a Eurasian Sparrowhawk, carrying what looked like an unfortunate Blue Tit, close to houses in Calle Convento.
Today was a little cooler and much clearer, with Gibraltar clearly visible for the first time in a couple of weeks. The only bird news of note was a group of 30+ Griffon Vulture heading west from around El Hacho at 08:30hrs.

Good sighting at the weekend by Bob Buckler who saw a Black-winged Kite at the confluence of the Rio Genal and Rio Guadiaro. It's a couple of years since we have seen this species in our area so hopefully it will hang around a bit like last time.
