The aim of this blog is to record bird sightings in and around Gaucin. We have a fantastic variety of birds that live in and visit the area and it would be great to have somewhere where we can publish observations for others to see. If you'd like to contribute on a regular basis please ask and I can add you as an author or send me your sightings or other observations by email pmconvento@gmail.com (the usual stuff...date, bird, location, etc.) and I'll add them to the blog. Happy birding! Paul
Thursday 10 April 2014, Gaucin, mostly cloudy, calm air-light SE wind, 22C
A couple of days of SE winds have brought misty and cloudy but warm weather. Not much to report from Gaucin, though the Calle Convento/del Pino Swift flock is now a noisy 100+ and the local Blackcap is singing at full power! I haven't heard the Tawny Owl for a few days and as yet we haven't had a repeat of last summer's Common Nightingale singing in the Calle Convento/del Pino gardens. Yesterday whilst walking near San Martin de Tesorillo there were a lot of Nightingales in full flow; at one point there were at least eight individuals along a 50m section of track, an incredible soundscape. From within the tumult I managed to pick out the scratchy song of my first Melodious Warbler of the year.
