The aim of this blog is to record bird sightings in and around Gaucin. We have a fantastic variety of birds that live in and visit the area and it would be great to have somewhere where we can publish observations for others to see. If you'd like to contribute on a regular basis please ask and I can add you as an author or send me your sightings or other observations by email pmconvento@gmail.com (the usual stuff...date, bird, location, etc.) and I'll add them to the blog. Happy birding! Paul
Wednesday 06 June, sunny, light S-SW wind, 33C: Another hot day....yesterday a Sparrowhawk tried it's luck mid-afternoon with the swifts just above our terrace in Calle Convento; with a loud 'whoosh' the predator dived amongst the prey but with a couple of quick direction changes the swifts were gone and the Sparrowhawk was left hungry - as it has been everytime I've seen it chasing swifts!
A couple of photos from Extremadura last week....a bridge over the Rio Almonte and the White Stork nests in the grounds of Finca Santa Marta:
