The aim of this blog is to record bird sightings in and around Gaucin. We have a fantastic variety of birds that live in and visit the area and it would be great to have somewhere where we can publish observations for others to see. If you'd like to contribute on a regular basis please ask and I can add you as an author or send me your sightings or other observations by email pmconvento@gmail.com (the usual stuff...date, bird, location, etc.) and I'll add them to the blog. Happy birding! Paul
Wednesday 23 June, sunny, hot, no wind, 32C: Early morning visit to Belen plain where we saw both Great Bustard and Little Bustard; also Booted Eagle, Stone Curlew (inc. chick), Little Owl. Later at Talavan reservoir highlights were Great Reed Warbler, Collared Pratincole, Great-crested and Little Grebe, Gadwall and Black-winged Stilt. At Monroy we added Black Vulture and more Great Bustard before a cattle drove flushed them off! Caceres Plains gave us Montagu's Harrier, Lesser Kestrel, Roller, Hoopoe, Calandra Lark, Tawny Pipit, Mistle Thrush, Spanish Sparrow, Turtle Dove and Southern Grey Shrike. At a bridge over Rio Almonte there were Raven, Jackdaw, Alpine Swift, Crag Martin and Black Wheatear. A great day's birding with a total of 83 species.
