Wednesday 23 June, sunny, hot, no wind, 32C: Early morning visit to Belen plain where we saw both Great Bustard and Little Bustard; also Booted Eagle, Stone Curlew (inc. chick), Little Owl. Later at Talavan reservoir highlights were Great Reed Warbler, Collared Pratincole, Great-crested and Little Grebe, Gadwall and Black-winged Stilt. At Monroy we added Black Vulture and more Great Bustard before a cattle drove flushed them off! Caceres Plains gave us Montagu's Harrier, Lesser Kestrel, Roller, Hoopoe, Calandra Lark, Tawny Pipit, Mistle Thrush, Spanish Sparrow, Turtle Dove and Southern Grey Shrike. At a bridge over Rio Almonte there were Raven, Jackdaw, Alpine Swift, Crag Martin and Black Wheatear. A great day's birding with a total of 83 species.
