The aim of this blog is to record bird sightings in and around Gaucin. We have a fantastic variety of birds that live in and visit the area and it would be great to have somewhere where we can publish observations for others to see. If you'd like to contribute on a regular basis please ask and I can add you as an author or send me your sightings or other observations by email pmconvento@gmail.com (the usual stuff...date, bird, location, etc.) and I'll add them to the blog. Happy birding! Paul
Thursday 19 May, Camino de Gibraltar, Gaucin, 1600-1730hrs, partly cloudy, warm: My first trip along here for a while; it seemed eerily quiet, then I realised that the water treatment pump was out of action - long may it continue, thus! There were at least 3 Nightingale, 2 Corn Bunting and one Cirl Bunting singing, also Short-toed Eagle, Woodchat Shrike, Cetti's Warbler, Sardinian Warbler, White Wagtail, Serin, Common and Pallid Swift, Barn Swallow, House Martin, Blue Tit, Great Tit, Greenfinch, Chaffinch, House Sparrow, Spotless Starling, Wood Pigeon, Stonechat, Griffon Vulture and a mixed flock of 30 or so Goldfinch and Linnet. Best bird was a Melodious Warbler down near the stream that runs below Finca Alboran. The wildflowers were looking lovely, see photos below of Tangier Pea Lathytus tingitanus, Corn Marigold Chrysanthemum segetum and Crown Daisy Chrysanthemum coronarium var. discolor.
