Saturday 02 April, beneath the west slope of El Hacho, Gaucin, 0900-1000hrs, partly cloudy, little or no wind: Flock of 20 Bee-eater flew over, also seen were Sparrowhawk, Griffin Vulture, lots of Stonechat, 2x Woodchat Shrike, Great-spotted Woodpecker, Sardinian Warbler, Blackcap, Greenfinch, Goldfinch, Linnet, Red-legged Partridge and the first Northern Wheatear of the year (female in photos). Heard Cuckoo and Iberian Chiffchaff. It was interesting to note that all of the Black Redstart appear to have moved on to their summer grounds.
The aim of this blog is to record bird sightings in and around Gaucin. We have a fantastic variety of birds that live in and visit the area and it would be great to have somewhere where we can publish observations for others to see. If you'd like to contribute on a regular basis please ask and I can add you as an author or send me your sightings or other observations by email pmconvento@gmail.com (the usual stuff...date, bird, location, etc.) and I'll add them to the blog. Happy birding! Paul
